BUDDHISM 101
NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO
The name of the fundamental Law of life and the universe expounded in Nichiren Buddhism. The literal meaning is Nam (devotion), the action of practicing Buddhism; myoho (Mystic Law), the essential law of life and its phenomenal manifestations; renge (lotus), the simultaneity of cause and effect; kyo (sutra), the truth expressed through the sound of ones' voice.
WHAT IS NICHIREN BUDDHISM
Nichiren Daishonin (1222-82) is the founder of the Buddhist teaching upon which the SGI bases its activities for peace and happiness in the world. One of the most significant attributes of Nichiren Buddhism is its easily accessible practice of chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. This profound yet simple method of Buddhist practice is the perfect Buddhist teaching for the modern world. The name Nichiren means sun lotus, and Daishonin is an honorific title that means great sage.
WHAT IS HUMAN REVOLUTION
An inner transformation by which people cultivate and come to express their highest human qualities, enabling them to change their circumstances as well. This process is a revolution in the character, in the very life, of an individual human being.
